I ate lunch late today. But that’s alright. If I would have eaten any earlier, I wouldn’t have been able to eavesdrop on two parties engaged in a conversation about skydiving.

Two gentlemen were in particular discussing the merits of proper parachute etiquette. They seem to be pessimists in this regard, focusing only on the fact that the parachute might not open. Not an uncommon thought for the pessimistic mind.

Had I been a more adept conversational interjectionist I might have nicely pointed out to the gentlemen that it is not about the fact the parachute might not open. It’s not about the risks. Chasing rare opportunities is really what it comes down to. Some people like scuba diving. Others like going into space.

Others just like tamales.

I probably couldn’t convince them that skydivers – some of whom were friends of theirs – don’t think about the dangers. Be aware of and prepare for them? Of course. But worry about them? There’s no time for that.

Unless all you do is talk about it.
